Painterly Comic

Painterly comic-book illustration: fully rendered painting — gouache, liquid acrylic or its digital equivalent — rather than flat ink-and-colour, applied to graphic-novel staging. Visible confident brushstrokes and opaque flat colour blocks built up in thin washes and thicker opaque passages; edges alternate between crisp graphic shape and soft blended rendering. Rich saturated palette governed by a strong warm-versus-cool light logic with dramatic single-source lighting, modelled form and reflected light. Tactile surface with subtle grain; detailed backgrounds handled more loosely than the sharper focal figure. Cinematic composition and high contrast, painterly rather than line-driven.
