Watercolor and Ink

Spontaneous ink linework of varying weight, with broken contours, lively hatching and occasional dry-brush scratchiness. Loose, irregular shapes defined as much by wash blotches as by outline. Palette of transparent watercolour: warm ochre, burnt sienna, muted olive, dusty cobalt and blue-grey, always with visible unpainted paper-white areas. Material cues: cold-pressed rough paper tooth, granulating pigment, hard-edged dried pools and soft feathered blooms, occasional ink spatter. Shading comes from transparent overlapping washes, each glaze darkening the one beneath; visible pigment edges and watermarks replace smooth gradients. Lighting is soft, natural and ambient, suggested by leaving paper white for highlights and dropping warm or cool washes into shadow. Composition favours a loose sketchbook view with an unfilled white margin inside the artwork, asymmetric placement and airy, uncluttered space around the figure.
